WARTIME RELATIONS 101

Let’s just be clear on a few things:

There’s an ‘us’, and there’s a ‘them’.

I am among the ‘us’, and you are among the ‘them’.

Certainly, you give more of a damn about your ‘them’

than you do about my ‘us’.

And I care greatly more about my ‘us’

than your beloved ‘them’.

There’s your concept of right and wrong,

and there is my concept of right and wrong.

And your concept of right and wrong frankly sucks.

I like mine better.

Doubtless, you’re as contemptuous of my concept of right and wrong

as I am of yours.

Don’t talk to me of peace and understanding, then,

if any of your ‘them’ fucks with any my ‘us’,

and is not sufficiently dealt with by you,

or another of your ‘them’

to my satisfaction.

Don’t say you weren’t warned,

if one of my ‘us’ kills one of your ‘them’

in self-defense.

Whatever becomes of you and your ‘them’

is of no concern to me and my ‘us’.

No doubt you feel the same.

Just as long as we stay out of one another’s way,

we’re cool.
